LASIK Consultations
LASIK eye surgery is one of the most advanced and effective ways to permanently correct your vision, eliminating or reducing the need for wearing glasses or contact lenses. This is true whether you are farsighted, nearsighted, or have astigmatism. This means you can enjoy more visual freedom, improving your overall quality of life.
Let’s take a closer look at what LASIK eye surgery involves and whether you qualify.
What happens during LASIK eye surgery?
During LASIK eye surgery a special type of laser is used to correct your vision by gently changing the shape of the cornea. The cornea is the dome-shaped clear tissue at the front of the eye. This typically takes about 15 minutes and is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can usually be taken home on the same day to begin your recovery.
Do you qualify for LASIK eye surgery?
If you currently wear glasses or contact lenses for vision correction, you might have been wondering whether you would benefit from having LASIK eye surgery and if you are eligible. To determine if you meet the criteria for this vision correction surgery, the first thing you’ll need to do is book a LASIK consultation with our highly skilled eye doctors.
Here are some eligibility criteria we consider during your assessment:
Your age: It’s important that your vision has stabilized before undergoing correction surgery. LASIK is recommended for people 18 years of age or older.
Your health: LASIK is not recommended for people with certain health issues or eye diseases, including uncontrolled diabetes, optic nerve disease, or keratoconus. It is also not recommended for those taking medications that compromise the immune system. People with dry eye syndrome may also not qualify for LASIK surgery.
Your prescription: The shape of your eye can change. We recommend LASIK surgery for those who have had a stable prescription for at least one to two years. Some prescriptions may also fall outside the limits of LASIK surgery.
